Composite Pictures 1993-1994

This substantial body of work was created in the early 1990s and was the precursor to the work of the late 1990s that exceeded the framed rectangle (see Plastic Painting). When some of these works appeared at Kunsthalle (Mücsarnok) in 1995, Andrew Ervin wrote of them, “Each picture… plays a game of simultaneous revealment and concealment. The cuts in the surface make each composite picture look as if it’s tearing itself apart, but the subtle tranquility of the soft color scheme soothes the eye and forces the viewer to look at the picture as a coherent and cohesive whole” (Andrew Ervin, Budapest Week).
